Siemens Healthineers announced the signing of its second scientific Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an institution of higher education in Egypt this year, namely with Alexandria University.

Siemens Healthineers, a global leader in medical services technology, announced the signing of its second scientific Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an institution of higher education in Egypt this year, namely with Alexandria University. The agreement will help support knowledge exchange and training of biomedical engineering students through theoretical, practical, and hands-on training, fostering a strong knowledge base of concepts, methods, tools, and applications of medical imaging and diagnostic equipment. A key focus area will be to develop instrumental understanding of general issues in medical imaging and diagnostics spanning across all common imaging modalities. This MoU follows the signing of a similar agreement between Siemens Healthineers and Cairo University in April.

“This agreement with Alexandria University, allows us to expand our higher education collaborations and to leverage the comprehensive pool of theoretical and practical abilities of our Siemens Healthineers experts by sharing this with the future generation of biomedical engineers in Egypt,” said Michael Schmermer, General Manager of Siemens Healthineers in Egypt, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan and Libya. “Our strong partnership with Alexandria University will enhance the technical knowledge of students in order to ensure their skills match the technical needs of the market.” 

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Said Allam, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University; Prof. Dr. Tamer Helmy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Alexandria University; Prof. Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Alexandria University;  Prof. Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Affairs, Alexandria University; and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rizk, Biomedical Engineering Program Coordinator, Alexandria University; in addition to Michael Schmermer, General Manager of Siemens Healthineers in Egypt, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan and Libya; Tarek El-Ashraf, Director of the Siemens Healthineers Academy; Amr El-Ghorab, Head of Customer Service at Siemens Healthineers Egypt; Mohamed El-Zeiny, Service Manager Alexandria Area; Mohamed El-Shahawy, Sales Manager Private Sector, Egypt; and Eng. Engy El-Shalkany, Coordinator for Siemens Healthineers Academy.  

“Our partnership with Siemens Healthineers will ensure our biomedical engineering students receive cutting-edge training in the latest diagnostic and therapeutic imaging applications and solutions, including radiology, cardiac catheterization, mammography, ultrasound and MRI,” said Prof. Dr. Said Allam, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University. “In addition, our students will have direct access to experienced professionals at Siemens Healthineers to learn from and to discuss any open or more specific topics related to medical imaging equipment and applications. This MoU will ensure Alexandria University students are well prepared to meet the healthcare needs of the market now and in future.”
