University of Manchester Hosts Free Business Masterclasses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai

The University of Manchester will host a series of three business masterclasses and an information session on the range of part-time Masters degrees available in the region for qualified working professionals, in the UAE in January 2018. All the events will be led by a senior member of the university’s business school faculty. In addition to learning more about specialist subject areas, the sessions are an opportunity for qualified working professionals in the UAE to discuss their career, training and development goals, and to learn more about the university’s part-time Masters programmes and shorter executive education courses.

Associate MBA Director, Professor Xavier Duran, will deliver a business masterclass focusing on Interdependence and Competitive Strategy, which Xavier teaches on the Manchester Global MBA programme. The session will introduce participants to intuitive insights that Game Theory and the Economics discipline can provide to better understand interdependence and their role in competitive strategy. The focus will be on practical application to the real business world.

Masterclass on 'Mastering the Financial Tools of Effective Business Management'

Arif Khurshed, Professor of Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School will lead the masterclass. Finance is a part of the toolkit that managers can use to understand and resolve business issues because knowledge of finance enables managers to understand how they can influence the process of creation of value in their firms. This masterclass focuses on the importance of finance for effective company management and integrates text and substantive real world cases to show how to use financial concepts and tools to solve business problems encountered in modern organisations. The approach will be conceptual as well as practical and will emphasise general principles. The intention will be that masterclass participants can apply these general principles to analyse new issues as they arise.
