Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) held student council elections for 2005-2006 as ten nominated students ran for student office.
PSUT annually holds student council elections in order for students to experience a democratic election as running candidates are elected and take on the responsibilities of leading the student body.  Nominated students were involved in campaigning for their initiatives, exemplifying true leadership skills through composing and presenting speeches and creating promotional materials to influence, motivate, and demonstrate to the student body why they are the most eligible candidates.  Concurrently, the student body got to understand their role as the general public while carefully listening to different leaders, and choosing the candidate they felt would understand their needs, have the confidence and ability to communicate it effectively to the faculty, and assist in accomplishing their goals.

Of the ten candidates, nine were elected to be part of the student body who would communicate with the faculty and administration concerning student needs.  The winning candidates were:  Mohammad Jamil Al-Shammari, Yazan Sameer Al-Dabas, Ismael Mohammed Al Bahri, Laith Younis Al Smadi, Ahmad Khalil Eida, Ghofran Lakem Shaqev, Rawan Sameer Al Karadsheh and Sami Adnan Al Sayyd.

Dr. Mohammed Al- Shishani, Dean of Student’s Affairs stated, “The annual election is a practical experience for the student body to choose and communicate with the leader whom they selected and felt can accomplish their goals.  82.9% of students voted this year, with 622 nominations out of 750 students; these statistics alone illustrate the student’s motivation in participating in a democracy as well as student and university relations.”
