Union representatives announced in Constantine over the weekend that they overwhelmingly reject the government's proposed privatization policies according to the Algerian human rights news source, Liberte Algerie.
The unions were quoted as saying that hotels should belong to their workers. The secretary general of the Federation of Unions, Rabah Brahmia, called on his members to stand firm against the threat of privatization.
Most commentators in Algeria and elsewhere believe that there will be a bitter fight with the unions but it is unlikely that the unions will prevail.
