Dubai Sports City today announced it has received a strong response from retailers, with six signed brands to open in its residential apartment buildings complex project, Canal Residence West, upon handover from September this year.

With more than 400 villa owners now living in Dubai Sports City, and thousands of additional residents expected to move in later this year, the mega-project is fast becoming a prime location in Dubai, servicing thousands of people working and living within it.

Among the brands already confirmed to have leased space at Canal Residence West are Al Maya supermarket, Alpha Optical, Champions Cleaners, Al Shafar Pharmacy, Nutrition World, and Al Arrab Restaurant, with further commercial tenants to be confirmed shortly.

“2010 is a year of deliveries and growth for Dubai Sports City, and with many elements coming online, the project is now a thriving community servicing local residents as well as visitors from surrounding areas. As a result, many retailers of all sizes are realizing this trend and now want to take space,” said Sam Sayadan, Retail Development Manger, Dubai Sports City.

Canal Residence West’s studio, one, two, and three bedroom apartments will be joined by the 400 villa owners already living in Victory Heights, a unique, gated golf course residential community within Dubai Sports City.

In addition to the residential components, Dubai Sports City last year saw the completion of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Bradenton Prep Academy, and the Butch Harmon School of Golf, while The Els Club, an 18-hole championship golf course, opened in March 2008, complementing Dubai Sports City’s vision of a “work, live and play” environment.

Opening later this year are the hockey stadium and six sports academies offering children of all ages the opportunity to receive world-class coaching in football, rugby, hockey, golf, cricket, and swimming.

Since April last year, the stadium has hosted two international cricket series, one national football event, and two Bollywood concerts.

In addition, sub-developer projects within Dubai Sports City have been active and 50 buildings are under construction.
