Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. recently set a new world drilling record in the Idd El Shargi North Dome field on Well IS-159 with GlobalSantaFe Rig 127.
A 25,596 feet hole (7497 metres) of 8-1/2” width was drilled in the Shuaiba reservoir using a Smith PDC bit and Schlumberger rotary steerable system, establishing the new world record for the most footage ever drilled in a single bit run.
During this run, the well was sidetracked twice to create three lateral branches in the reservoir without pulling of the hole. (menareport.com)
