A recently issued report by the Arab Monetary Fund in Abu Dhabi revealed that the average Qatari per capita income amounted to $21,800 during the years 1989-1999.
This figure is the highest in the Arab world, and amongst the highest per capita incomes worldwide, according to Al-Sharq daily. The report also showed that the Qatari GDP equaled $12 billion in 1999. The state’s local population stands at 550,000.
The UAE holds second place for per capita income in the Arab world. Between 1989 to 1999, average per capita income stood at $17,000, growing by approximately 12 percent yearly. The Monetary Fund attributed this relatively high-income level to the Emirates’ diversified economy and rising oil prices. ― (MENA Report)
