The Qatari government decided Wednesday, July 4, to scrap the communications and transport ministry, the official QNA agency reported.

"The cabinet approved the scrapping of the ministry of communications and transport and the redistribution of the functions for which it is responsible," the agency said.

The agency made no mention of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Nasser Al-Thani, who has headed the ministry since the current government was formed in June 1999.

The cabinet also decided to "take the necessary measures for the promulgation of decrees creating a global body for civil aviation, another body for customs and ports and a body for postal services." ― (AFP, Doha)
