The National Bank of Ras Al-Khaimah (Rakbank) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has selected Gulf Business Machines (GBM), sole distributor for IBM products and services in the Gulf countries excluding Saudi Arabia, to implement a J2EE based framework in order to support a number of IT applications and integration needs to meet the Bank's new business requirements.
The solution will become fully operational within two to three months, with the first of the applications being rolled out within six months. The entire solution will run on IBM xSeries 440 Enterprise Servers, and the basic J2EE infrastructure will comprise the IBM WebSphere Application Server, Tivoli Storage Manager for back-up purposes, and WebSphere Studio Application, which will run on Red Hat Linux.
Rakbank's strategy is to grow the personal banking business in its existing customer segments with selective expansion in other markets in the UAE by improving its service delivery channels to achieve high service quality standards and by inducting smart userfriendly technology. WebSphere allows Rakbank to lay the groundwork for this strategy.
Rakbank is a fast growing bank in the personal banking segment within the UAE. The bank has been in existence for 25 years, and operated primarily in the Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah until its new expansion initiative, which has seen its foray into Al-Ain, Dubai and Sharjah. — (menareport.com)
