Samsung Corp., the South Korean company, was awarded a US$ 875 million contract to build the world's tallest building in Dubai, the South Korean media reported Thursday. "The Burj Dubai, to be opened in 2009, will be the highest structure in the world," Emaar Properties, a real estate development firm in Dubai, said in a statement.
Burj Dubai will accommodate leisure, housing and shopping facilities, according to the report. It will sit above the world's largest mall, designed to accommodate 50,000 shoppers and featuring a three-story aquarium and Olympic-sized ice rink.
According to KUNA, Samsung won this lucrative contract in partnership with Besix SA, the construction unit of Societe Belge des Beton SA, and Arabtec of Dubai.
