Korean digital manufacturer Samsung Electronics reported positive performances across all product categories in 2001, with annual sales in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region growing by 15 percent to reach the one billion dollar mark. The company also announced that it aims to grow its revenues in the region by 30 percent to reach $1.3 billion in 2002.

The company's performance in 2001 was mainly attributed to the introduction of new digital technologies in the region, commented B.W. Lee, Samsung Electronics MEA vice president. “Despite a very challenging business environment, all our four divisions—Digital Media Network, Device Solution Network, Telecommunication Network and Digital Appliance Network—have registered highly favorable performances in 2001.”

“The growing Internet penetration levels in the region, coupled with the business and Information Technology (IT) friendly policies pursued by governments, will enable us to further build on this strong showing, by introducing a range of hi-tech digital products,” Lee added.

In 2002, Samsung launched its DVD Combo in the region and plans to unveil its other offerings, including the 63inch PDP television, 40inch LCD, HD Projection TV and the new-generation Nexio hand-held PC.

Samsung Electronics MEA headquarters operates in the region through 13 bases, including two service depots. Additionally the company also manages a network of partners and distributors across the region.

Founded in 1969 in Korea, Samsung Electronics today has 25 production bases worldwide and 59 sales subsidiaries in 46 countries. Based on its vision of ‘digital convergence', Samsung Electronics has currently positioned itself into four main business units: Home Network, Office Network, Mobile Network and Core Components. — (menareport.com)
