According to a report in Al-Hayat newspaper, supervisors from the Saudi ministry of commerce recently visited and inspected 170 local factories which manufacture products including food, bottled mineral water, paints, radiator water and detergents. The inspectors submitted 945 samples taken from these plants to the ministry’s laboratories, in order to verify if these products fulfill the required manufacturing specifications.
During the first half of 2000, similar inspections of local factories were conducted throughout the kingdom, with 11,616 samples sent to laboratories. These, consequently, led to the confiscation and destruction of 567 food packages that did not meet the local manufacturing and health standards. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
