A recent report by the Saudi Customs Bureau revealed that 84,000 cars, both new and second-hand, had been imported into the Kingdom during the first quarter of 2001, reported Al-Jazirah daily. The vehicles were imported by various auto showcases, car agencies as well as by individuals.
The report estimated the value of overall imported cars into the kingdom in Q1 2001 at 5.4 billion Saudi riyals ($1.4 billion), 65 percent of which were imported from Japan, Germany and the United States.
Over three million passenger cars traveled the roads of Saudi Arabia in 1999. In 1998, Saudi
Arabia imported 113,854 new and used automobiles, 36 percent more than in 1997, according to the US Tradeport organization. ― (MENA Report)
