DMC Stratex Networks recently commenced shipments of its DART radio frequency products to Jordan Mobile Telephone Services (JMTS). The contract, which was signed in the fourth quarter of 2001, is valued at six million dollars.

JMTS will use Stratex Networks' DART radios to provide wireless connectivity to the main telephone infrastructure backbone for GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) business customers in Jordan.

Stratex Networks has provided JMTS with wireless access products to enable growing coverage of its GSM network since inception of the network more than six years ago. The DART is an all-outdoor system solution for delivering data, voice and video communications in a wireless E1/T1 system.

Founded in 1984 and headquartered in San Jose, California, DMC Stratex Networks, Inc., provides wireless solutions for mobile applications and broadband access, enabling the development of communications networks.

Founded in 1995, JMTS (Fastlink) was the first operator to introduce mobile phone services into Jordan. In the year 2000, Fastlink became a subsidiary of the Cairo-based Orascom Telecom, the largest GSM network operator in the Middle East and Africa, with more than 19 cellular operators in the region. Fastlink’s user-base currently tops 680,000, according to a company press release. — (menareport.com)
