Syria's Minister of Finance, Mohammad al-Hussein, on Wednesday said the legislative decree No. 35 issued Wednesday, which allowed the establishment of Islamic banks in Syria, is an important step towards implementing the financial and banking reform project.
"Syrian Islamic banks will contribute to financing the economic and investment activities in Syria as we expect a great number of customers will be dealing with those banks," Minister al-Hussein was quoted as saying by SANA.
He stressed the government interest to launch private Islamic banks, offering all means of encouragement as done with other Syrian private and public banks.
