During the first quarter of 2005, Syria witnessed a remarkable rise in the overall number of tourists. The number of Arab and foreign tourists rose to 1,159,000 compared to 1,109,000 in the same period of last year i.e. an increase of 13.3 percent.
The revenue from tourism amounted to US$ 2.2 billion in 2004 compared to US$ 1.4 billion in 2003 , i.e. an increase of 57 percent.
The number of the licensed tourist projects so far have amounted to 2044 while funds invested in tourism have reached S.P. 165 billion.
