Official figures, published on Monday, confirm that Syria's production of crude oil has dropped to below 500,000 barrels of oil a day (b/d) for the first time in over a decade.
Until now, estimates had put Syria's crude oil output at an average daily level of about 500,000 b/d.
A report cited by SANA, however, indicated that Syria is currently producing about 475,000 b/d where about 300,000 b/d are exported. This makes about 60 percent of the government’s hard currencies revenue.
The report noted that the oil sector is constituting a main source of the national income and contributes 10 - 14 percent of the Gross Domestic Production (GDP). (albawaba.com)
