President of the Royal Dutch /Shell Oil Group, Yuron Van Der Vir recently met with top-level officials in Damascus to discuss the possibility of future oil excavation projects in Syria reported Al-Hayat.
Van Der Vir is also scheduled to meet the Syrian Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Minister of Oil and the Director of the Syrian Oil Company. These meetings aim to boost future cooperation between Damascus and the international petroleum company.
Syria Shell Petroleum Development B.V. is the largest foreign investor in Syria, having invested $5.7 billion in petroleum operations to date. It is also the fourth largest Shell producer of crude oil outside the United States. In 1992, it produced 400,000 barrels of oil in Syria and became the largest oil producing company in the country. — (Mena Report)
