Syria's Minister of Tourism, Saadallah Agha al-Qalaa, on Wednesday said that the local tourist market would witness a great development in the hotel sector as new investments, estimated at $ 3 billions will come into effect. "The Tourism Ministry is backing the tourist investment in historic houses in the old cities… it gave licenses to a number of activities to establish traditional hotels in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Hama," the Syrian minister added, according to SANA.

He maded these comment during a meeting in Egypt.

It should be recalled that late last year Syria's Ministry of Tourism and the UAE-based al Futtaim Group signed an agreement to establish an integrated tourist city project in al Sabboura area, Damascus countryside, with a cost of US$1 billion.

The project includes building an integrated tourist city on an area of 1 million square meters.
