Syrian wheat is facing a strong competition in the world trade market by the American, Australian and Canadian wheat. Wheat production in Syria surpasses by two fold the consumption.
According to SANA, revenues of the General Establishment for Cereals Trade and Industry amounted this year to US$ 195,738 in return for exporting 1,042 million tons of cereals.
Syria started exporting wheat in 1994 after the planted areas were expanded that year to 1,553 hectars, which produced 3,703 tons.
