Procedures for the implementation of the Disi water project will be at the heart of talks between Minister of Water Hatim Halawani and his Libyan counterpart during a four-day visit to the country.
According to water ministry sources, Halawani will discuss executive steps and a timetable for the implementation of the vital project.
Libya has promised to help Jordan draw water to Amman from the Disi basin, around 320 kilometres south of Amman.
Libya said last June it needs three months to complete the technical and feasibility study of the project.
Halawani, who is accompanied by an official delegation, is carrying a message from His Majesty King Abdullah to Libyan President Moammar Qadhafi concerning bilateral cooperation in water and other fields.
In a statement carried by the local press on Saturday, Halawani said talks so far were positive.
The project entails drilling 80 wells and setting up several water pumping stations along the way and is estimated to cost $730 million.
Jordan hopes to secure around $300 million worth of pipes in addition to JD100 million in direct financing for the project. ― (Jordan Times)
