UK telecom equipment company Telspec will be installing over 107,000 telephone lines throughout Egypt using its digital pair gain technology, following an agreement with the National Services Project Organization (NSPO) and the Arabian Telecommunications Projects Company (ATPC).

Telspec has signed new contracts to supply 62,500 lines to the National Services Project Organisation (NSPO) and 45,000 lines to the Arabian Telecommunications Projects Company (ATPC)—both companies maintain access networks for Telecom Egypt.

In 2001 Telspec provided NSPO with 62,500 subscriber lines and ATPC with 30,000 subscriber lines to help alleviate waiting lists for telephony mostly in the Cairo area. The companies will now extend the availability of fixed telecommunications to a wider geographic area. The country currently has fixed line penetration of nine percent, according to the US Chamber of Commerce figures,

Digital pair gain systems help operators grow their customer base at low cost, by enabling more customer connections to be made over new and existing access infrastructure. Using digital pair gain equipment, a single copper pair can be used to deliver additional analogue telephony and data services. Telspec pair gain products have been an important building block for access networks in many countries.

Assisted by Telspec's local partner, PACC Electronic Engineering Co, the deployment of the TelMax digital pair gain systems will progress at over 25,000 lines per month.

Founded in 1975, Telspec employs more than 400 people at its headquarters and R&D center in Rochester, Kent, and its manufacturing plant in Perth, Scotland. Telspec develops, manufactures and supplies specialized communications systems and solutions for use in networks that carry Internet and telephony services. — (menareport.com)
