Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company has forged another commercial alliance in the European market with Danimex Communications Ltd in Denmark. According to the service provider agreement, Danimex will have the rights to distribute and market Thuraya's mobile satellite services and products throughout Denmark, including user terminals and SIM cards as well as overseeing billing and customer care aspects.
Speaking on the occasion, Thuraya's chairman Omran said: "This is another commercial success for Thuraya in Europe, as we move ahead towards the launch of Thuraya -1 satellite.”
Managing director of Danimex, Bruun said: "The business relationship with Thuraya is an important step in the expansion of our service portfolio. We recognize the tremendous capabilities of satellite technology, and the values that Thuraya will bring to various market segments in Denmark."
Danimex Communication Ltd is located in Sønderborg, Denmark, and has offices in Nigeria, Zimbabwe and USA. Danimex is an authorized distribution products portfolio includes VHF/UHF, HF-SSB, surveillance equipment, tracking and positioning, satellite communication and airtime.
Thuraya is a private joint stock company that was founded in 1997. The company’s first satellite will be launched in the 4th quarter of 2000, and commercial services will commence early in 2001. A spare satellite will be launched later to expand system capacity, and provisions exist for a third additional satellite.
Thuraya’s satellite is a geosynchronous satellite positioned at 44 degrees East above the Indian Ocean. It has a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. Thuraya’s footprint of 99 countries spans Europe, North and Central Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The primary gateway in Sharjah, UAE, will house the ground segment, an advanced operational center with switching and tracking facilities. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
