ALBAWABA -  The $300 billion figure has been circulating recently in relation to a potential payment to Iran as part of a peace agreement, with U.S. President Donald Trump rejecting the notion as ‘fake news’.

"The story that the US is paying Iran 300 million dollars is fake news," Trump said in a post. While he cited 300 'million, not billion', it seems unclear whether this is the same sum that has been mentioned by administration officials and international media as ‘billion’ dollars.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance further clarified that any proposed reconstruction fund for Iran will not come from American taxpayer money but rather from regional allies and private investors, saying in a statement, "Not a single dime of that money comes from the United States."

He said that Gulf nations may choose to invest in Iran if it makes its economy "investable" and starts behaving like a "normal country." With a US senior official saying that a multi-billion dollar fund was negotiated but tied strictly to "performance".

Whatever the case may be, the establishment of any fund rests on the possibility of a final settlement between the US and Iran, which includes a 60-day ceasefire extension and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
