ALBAWABA - U.S. President Donald Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC in December of last year, now, he is attempting to stop the lawsuit from proceeding as it could give the BBC access to his personal finances through court discovery.
The suit was filed by Trump on December 15, 2025, over a BBC Panorama documentary that allegedly edited his infamous January 6 speech to make it seem that he called for direct violent action at the U.S. Capitol.
On Wednesday, Trump’s lawyers filed an emergency motion to stop court proceedings after U.S. Magistrate Judge allowed the BBC to move forward with gaining access to financial information of at least 400 businesses owned by and related to Trump and his family.
In a court deposition, Trump’s lawyers said;
“The BBC’s motive could not be more transparent—to wrongly exploit this litigation for its own political benefit, as well as the benefit of President Trump’s other political opponents,
“The moment those records reach the BBC, the injury is complete and irreversible,”
If Trump’s motion to stop the BBC from gaining access to his financial records fails, he might have to drop the suit altogether to avoid jeopardizing his business, and indeed, political interests.
The BBC has yet to make or respond to any comments.
