Famous Tunisian producer, Tarak Ben 'Amar announced in a press conference Tunisia's desire to become a center of North African, Arab and African cinema. He pointed out that a cinematography center is being constructed at Gammarth, a northern suburb of Tunis.
The center, built at a budget of Euro6 million has ultra-modern sound and imaging laboratories for special effects and will be officially opened mid-2005.
Ben 'Amar pointed out that these laboratories would be very competitive with those in Europe and the USA and will also significantly assist local North African producers.
Tarak Ben 'Amar is a partner with Silvio Berlusconi in Quanta Communications and the distributor of Mel Gibson's film The Passion of Christ. He also consults for Vivendi. (menareport.com)
