The United Nations and the Iraqi government have agreed to move forward with plans for Turkey’s state petroleum company (TPAO) to drill in Iraq. A TPAO subsidiary has won a tender to excavate 20 wells, held by the Iraqi oil ministry within the framework of UN programs, TPAO director-general Kenan Veziroglu confirmed to AFP.
The exploration work was expected to start in January in areas held by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) of Massoud Barzani, one of the two main factions that administer northern Iraq, protected by a no-fly zone since the Gulf War, the Gumhuriyet reported. — (menareport.com)
