Turkey’s domestic steel consumption dropped by 34 percent in 2001, in line with a 9.4 percent decrease in production during the same period, reported Cumhuriyet . Turkey’s Association of Iron and Steel Producers reported that the republic was the 15th largest iron and steel producing country in the world last year.
