German-Danish joint venture Scandlines has sold its two oldest passenger vessels for trading to Iraq. Scandlines managing director Jan Steen Mikkelsen was quoted as saying that the company had sold the 12,000-gt, German-flag Rugen (built 1972) and 11,000-gt, Danish-flag Dronning Margarete II (built 1973). The vessels will be delivered soon, likely later this month, Tradewinds reported.
According to press reports, the buyer is the Dubai-based Marco Shipping, which operate services to Umm Qasr and Basra in southern Iraq.
