UAE business community mourns death of Jumbo Group founder

The UAE’s business community is mourning the death of businessman Manohar Rajaram Chhabria, the founder and chairman of Jumbo Electronics Company, who died of a heart attack in Mumbai on Saturday, April 6, 2002.  

 

Chhabria, who set up the $ 1.5 billion Jumbo Group in Dubai in 1974, died at the Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai, where he was undergoing treatment following a bypass surgery on March 17. He was 56 at the time of his death and is survived by his wife and three daughters.  

 

Chhabria, played a key role in the consumer electronics business in Dubai. In 1974, Chhabria started his enterprise with a modest capital base. Today it has grown into one of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s first transnational corporations with a global presence.  

 

A Harvard University business graduate, Chhabria also headed many Indian companies including Shaw Wallace, tyre manufacturer Dunlop, Hindustan Dorr-Oliver and Mather and Platt. — (menareport.com)
