The Information Technology (IT) market in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported substantial sales drops in the month of September 2001. Sales Manager of the Abu Dhabi-based Jampo Electronics company, Ricky Ramadoray, told Al-Ittihad that local electronics sales declined by 50 percent last month compared with the same period in the previous year.
The manager related the sales plummet to the ongoing global crisis that began with the September 11 terror attacks in the United States. However, Ramadoray expected the beginning of the new academic year and the regional IT GITEX exhibition to get the industry back on its feet again.
The crisis is not affecting local mobile telephone markets, where demand for mobile phones, Nokia models in particular, has grown since the US terrorist attacks took place last month. — (menareport.com)
