44 per cent of respondents to a recent poll claimed they spend more than half of their salary on rent in the UAE. The online poll conducted by the local Dubai-based English daily Gulf News highlighted that rent hikes are one of the biggest problems for residents.
According to the daily, 29 per cent of respondents said they had to direct 35 to 50 per cent of their income to rent, while 16 per cent said they had to pay between a quarter and 35 per cent of their salary.
Five per cent said that rent consumed 15 to 25 per cent of their pay, the paper said.
