ALBAWABA – Uber, the American multinational transportation company that provides ride-hailing services, courier services, food delivery, and freight transport, and WeRide, the international autonomous driving technology company that holds driverless permits in China, the US, the UAE and Singapore, announced the launch of the first self-driving smart mobility service in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Uber announced launching this new autonomous mobility service in UAE. The service highlights the company’s innovation in autonomous transportation and its commitment to advancing the future of transportation, according to a report by TechCrunch.

The company stated that the first phase of the new autonomous mobility service will launch in key areas of Abu Dhabi, including Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and the roads leading to Zayed International Airport.

Additionally, Uber said that human supervisors will be present in the vehicles during this initial phase to ensure passenger safety. The service is expected to become fully autonomous by 2025.

Noah Zych, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery Operations at Uber, said: "We’re thrilled to launch our partnership with WeRide and receive the support of Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre. As we take this next step in Abu Dhabi, we are excited to build on the strength of the Uber platform, helping our partners make autonomous vehicles a part of everyday life."
