Dr. Salih Najim, the dean of the engineering college at Basra University has said that the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) had allocated two financial grants for the rehabilitation of the college facilities. Najim added that the organization required that a large number of Iraqis be employed to implement these projects.
Najim, according to <i>Azzaman</i> newspaper, indicated that a delegation form the University of Basra visited the Czech Republic and signed agreements to implement new projects at the provinces of Basra and Nasireya. He also revealed that a study was also carried out to develop a paper factory and a shopping mall in Basra.
