Vintage Petroleum’s fourth well of its second exploration drilling campaign on the S-1 Damis block in Yemen, the An Nagyah #3, has successfully tested 42 degree API oil from the sub-salt Lam formation.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 4,238 feet and based on electric logs, core data and other well information, the 162 foot interval from 3,346 to 3,508 feet in the Lower Lam sand was selected for testing. This interval flowed at a rate of 205 barrels per day of oil, 25 barrels per day of water and 80 thousand cubic feet per day of natural gas with a flowing tubing pressure of 20 psi.
The Upper Lam sand, which had tested oil in the An Nagyah #2, was encountered in a structurally high position and log analysis indicated that this interval was situated entirely within the gas cap, so it was not tested. The logs also indicated that the An Nagyah #3 has similar net pay thickness and quality in the Upper Lam sand to that observed in the An Nagyah #2.
The An Nagyah #3 was drilled to continue the evaluation of the commercial potential of the An Nagyah structure. During the fourth quarter of 2002, Vintage drilled the An Nagyah #2 which successfully tested 46 degree API oil at a rate of 1,091 barrels per day from the sub-salt Upper Lam formation.
Commercial development of the An Nagyah structure is contingent upon a minimum threshold of reserves to justify economic development. To facilitate this determination, a detailed analysis of all Lam formation reservoir data obtained from the drilling and testing of these recent wells is under way. Furthermore, an additional well or wells may be drilled to determine the full extent of the productive reservoir area contained within this structure. — (menareport.com)
