Water prices in Algeria expected to rise

Algeria's Water Resources Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal declared Monday in Algiers that his department is currently "negotiating with the French Suez research department (ex: Lyonnaise des Eaux- France) for the management of Algiers AEP network."  


According to APS, the goal is to reach a deal for three years, to supply the capital 24h/24h," indicated Sellal while speaking about drinking water loss in the largest cities of the country.  


Sellal added "water price will be more expensive, i.e. AD13 per cubic meter for the house consumption in stead of AD9 per m3."  


Expert estimate the water market in Algeria at $1.5 billion per year. The turnover made by enterprises operating in this sector, is put at some AD14 billion, i.e. 9 percent of the market capacities.
