The Syrian army Tuesday seized one of the last remaining rebel held villages in the Qalamoun region, Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television reported, adding that regime forces expanded their military operations in the central city of Old Homs.
The army, backed by Hezbollah fighters, retook Aasal al-Ward after armed men surrendered to President Bashar Assad’s forces, the media outlet said.
The news came a day after Assad’s forces recaptured the Christian town of Maaloula in Qalamoun, as well as the villages of Sarkha and Jibbeh.
The capture of Aasal al-Ward is the most recent victory in the government’s ongoing campaign to retake control of the mountainous border region, which began in November.
Elsewhere, the Syrian army advanced on the central city of Old Homs, fanning out into the neighborhoods Jourat Al-Shiyah and Al-Hamidiya, Al-Manar said.
