A suitcase stuffed with 13.7 kilograms of cocaine was found Monday in an arrivals terminal bathroom of Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport, an airport source has confirmed.

The source said that the bag was opened by security forces after being found by airport staff.

Drugs, usually including cocaine and hashish, are discovered relatively frequently while being transported through Beirut's airport.

In August, customs officials at the airport arrested two suspected drug smugglers upon their arrival from Brazil.

The suspects were carrying candlestick holders, ashtrays and a small statue, all containing cocaine.
