A man has been charged at a Dubai court after he and other fugitives allegedly robbed at knifepoint Dh165,000 ($44,917) in cash and Dh150,000 ($40,833) worth of new mobile phones from an electronics trading company.

According to the public prosecution records, the 22-year-old man, who is currently in detention, barged into the company with his accomplices, posing as officers from the criminal investigation department (CID).

He denied at court charges of robbery and impersonation of police officers.

The case dates back to November 24, 2015, and was reported to Naif police station.

The complainant, a 42-year-old owner of the electronics trading company, said he was alone at his office located in a flat around 7.30pm when about five men barged inside. "Two of them said they were CID officers. Another man suddenly pulled out a knife and placed it on my neck. He threatened to kill me if I screamed for help."

The businessman told the prosecutor the thieves then tied him up, tore his shirt and used it to gag and blindfold him.

After they fled the place, the victim crawled to the door while trying to untie his hands. "I screamed for help. A man, who happened to be visiting our office to drop merchandise, helped me," the businessman said during the investigation.

A court ruling will be pronounced on May 27.
