Two lion cubs who were born in a zoo in the Gaza Strip died just two days after being born.
The cubs, named Fajr and Sajil, were the first lion babies to be born in the Bissan zoo in Beit Lahia after their parents were smuggled in to Palestine four years ago, the BBC reported.
Speaking to the BBC, the zoo's manager said that his staff were inexperienced when dealing with the lion cubs - and that the zoo could not get the necessary vaccines for the cubs from Egypt due to the strict blockade on the Gaza Strip.
Due to the blockade, Gaza largely depends on external aid and smuggling for its supplies - but it seems even the Gaza tunnels (which have been used to smuggle KFC before) came up empty for the poor lion cubs.
The cubs were born shortly after the first anniversary of 2012's conflict between Israel and Hamas - and were given symbolic names by the party.
Fajr, meaning "dawn", was the name of the rockets fired by Hamas into Israel while Sajel is the name Hamas gave to their campaign, according to the BBC.
The cubs' parents were smuggled into the Gaza Strip four years ago from Egypt using the territory's underground tunnel system.
