A green-fingered gardener was left shaking after she up-rooted her carrot patch to find one of the vegetables resembled a small hand.

Unsuspecting Lynne Wilkinson dug up the vegetable when she was looking for something to cook for dinner last Wednesday.

The 63-year-old found the baby claw-shaped carrot in one of the box troughs which she grows various vegetables from in her garden.

Lynne, from Ulverston, Cumbria, said: 'I was scared to death when I first pulled it out.

'It looks just like a little baby's hand it took me a few minutes to calm down afterwards.

'It looked perfected normal so I was completely not expecting it at all.

'I don't know how the carrot managed to fork like this because of the way it is grown, there are no rocks which usually cause the vegetables to fork so it's a mystery.

'I have never seen anything like this before.'

Luckily, the carrot was saved from the cooking pot because of its unique shape.

She said: 'I don't know what I am going to do with it, but it is too nice to throw away. '

A carrot with multiple taproots like Lynne's vegetable is down to damage caused while being grown in rocky soil.

Surprisingly, the hand is not the only body part Lynne has dug up in her garden and already thinking about what might happen if she finds any more.

'The other week I dug up a carrot that looks like two little legs,' she said.

Adding: 'If I find any more body parts I might to think about making my own Frankenstein's monster out of vegetable body parts.'

Lynne grows a range of vegetables she eats over the summer from beans to cucumbers in greenhouses in her garden.
