Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk ordered a Beirut nightclub closed Tuesday, after video footage take at the club over the weekend showed half-naked dancers performing explicit, erotic moves.
"The videos posted on social media outlets show direct pornographic dancing," Machnouk said in a statement, responding to footage, posted late Monday evening, of the Friday night performance at Discotek.
The Lebanese nightclub in Beirut’s Karantina was Friday hosting Cirque Le Soir, a London club currently on a world tour.
"We’d like to apologize to those who attended the Cirque Le Soir event. Neither Discotek management nor the Cirque Le Soir management was aware of the individual actions of the performers," Discotek management said in a statement posted to their Facebook page Monday.
The nightclub management had conveyed their objections to Cirque Le Soir for these "unacceptable" acts, the statement said.
Machnouk called on the Internal Security Forces to investigate the matter. "Close the club, and those responsible should be sent to the competent judicial authorities," he said.
