An Israeli man woke on Saturday with one goal in mind: to end the bloody war in Syria. He left his home in the largely Arab populated Israeli town of Kfar Qassem, in the Occupied Golan Heights and headed to the border, apparently to tell Syrian President Bashar al Assad to stop killing the people of Syria.
It was a bold move for a man who's government has previously stated that they are willing to take in refugees from the same Alawi sect as the Syrian president. Israel has yet to take a stand one way or the other on the Syrian civil war but there have certainly been clashes between the two countries in the Golan Heights in previous months.
The man in question has not been seen since, leaving his wife and two daughters confused and worried for his safety. His wife described him as mentally ill and on a one-man quest to end the war between Bashar al-Assad’s regime and rebel forces.
According to reports in the Israeli press, the unidentified man was injured in a work accident three years ago which left him severely physically and mentally ill. This latest move, however, is the most dangerous action yet and family and friends fear he has already been killed.
The Israel Defense Forces said they had notified the UN of the wandering Israeli in the hope he would be returned but the man-on-a-mission will clearly not be satisfied until a peace agreement is reached just over the border.
