A 25-year-old man, who worked as a security guard in Dubai, has been sentenced to three months in jail.
He was accused of stealing money from two visitors at the shopping centre he works at.
The Court of First Instance found the 25-year-old man guilty of a theft charge and ordered his deportation.
Public prosecution records show the man stole Dh15,000 ($4,082) and Dh1,800 ($489) from a woman's bag and another Dh1,800 ($489) from another woman after they deposited their stuff at the baggage deposit section of the mall.
A complaint about the theft was registered in January and the accused was arrested on the 7th of January and interrogated at Bur Dubai police station.
A policeman, who questioned the defendant after the theft incident had been reported, said the accused willingly admitted to the theft charges.
"He said he worked as a guard at the concierge hall of a shopping centre where visitors' baggage is usually kept. On the incident day, three African women came and handed an employee two bags to keep. The guard later stole amounts of money from the bags after finding that none was around," the officer told the prosecutor.
During questioning, the defendant admitted he searched the complainants' bags and stole their money. He also confessed he had been stealing from the baggage of visitors to the shopping centre since he began his work one year and a half earlier and sending the money to his home country.
