A Syrian peace activist Rima al-Dali did not expect that she would become known as the “lady in red.”
Dali, who donned bright red attire to galvanize attention of the passerby in Damascus carrying slogans of peace that said “stop the killing.” To her surprise she received support from people who clapped as they passed her by.
In an ostensible bid to promote her message everywhere, Dali took her message to the Syrian people’s assembly in crowded central Damascus where she was arrested along with her other peace activist friends.
“The lady in red” was released but her friends, Asim Hamshu, Savana Bakla, Hussam al-Din Dihni, Ali al-Zain remain in detention at an undisclosed location.
Syrian youth have also protested in front of a court in Damascus carrying slogans that read “an Easter vigil,” calling on all Syrians to join peaceful protests.
A group of young people staged a peaceful demonstration in Damascus city center, on Wednesday carrying placards that said “stop killing, we want to build a country for all Syrians.” Sasha Ayooub, Salina Abatha, Leen Shakir and Mohamed Abdulah were arrested for their “crime”.
