Customs officials at the King Khaled International Airport (KKIA) have thwarted two attempts to smuggle banned drugs from the kingdom to Britain.
A report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Tuesday said two drug couriers were arrested separately after substantial amounts of heroin were found hidden inside their bowels.
The report quoted Sultan Fuhaid, customs director of KKIA, as saying one of the suspects was found with 100 capsules, each containing 811.5 milligrams of heroin, as he tried to check in at the airport for a flight to London.
A second suspect, traveling through another flight, was caught with 477 grams of heroin hidden in his stomach.
Smuggling drugs to the kingdom had been a common occurrence but these attempts to use Saudi Arabia as a source of drug smuggling is something unusual.
