ALBAWABA - The recent arrest of a beggar in the Palestinian city of Ramallah has started up controversy within Palestinian communities and circles, as the shocking truth about the man's unexpected wealth came to light.
Pictures made their way on social media showing the Palestinian police raiding a "beggar"'s home, revealing a surprising level of wealth for someone who does street begging. Alongside his brother, the man was found to be the owner of several luxury cars.
In an official statement posted on their website, the Palestinian police revealed details of the arrest, stating, "Today, police caught a beggar inside a 2020 model vehicle, and confiscated a sum of money (15000 shekels) found inside it in the town of Bir Zeit, north of Ramallah."

Elaborating on the reasons leading to the arrest, the statement explained, "During routine patrols in the streets of Birzeit, officers observed a suspicious person from outside the governorate sitting in a vehicle. Upon inspection, officers discovered bags containing currency next to the driver."
The beggar reportedly admitted to engaging in begging activities at different intersections and roads, leading a network of people whom he dispatched to beg for money in public spaces across various places before meeting up back in Ramallah.
Further investigations led to the discovery of more evidence at the beggar's home, including five luxury vehicles, and a large sum of money collected from daily begging activities, alongside a cache of prescription pills and Palestinian vehicle plates.
The seized items were cataloged by authorities, and both suspects were detained, pending legal proceedings to be made by the Public Prosecution.
