“A picture speaks a thousand words” - Frederick R. Barnard
“A video speaks a million words” - Albawaba
Singers produce music videos to put a face to a song. To bring lyrics to life. To connect with their fans.
While Lebanese sweetheart Nancy Ajram has a reputation for coming out with the most story-telling videos, other Arab pop stars weren't as lucky - sometimes not even her!
Whether it was down to low budgets, unfashionable stylists, uninspired choreographers, uncreative writers, or the unfortunate lack of style that singer possesses which led to creating those monstrosities, bad publicity is good publicity, no?
Like seriously, some of those artists went on to become famous... some really, really famous!
But enough with the talking. You need to SEE what we're talking about.
So, without further ado, check out the 5 most absurd songs-turned-videos landing straight onto the #EpicFail chart!
1. Dana - Lebanese singer Dana makes Haifa Wehbe look serious and, even worse, talented. This was her first ever music video titled "Look at me, I'm Dana." As if the name wasn't bad enough, the video's budget doesn't seem to have allowed her to have anything more than PJs and tacky dresses as her wardrobe choices. She practices dance moves which she seems to believe are sexually appealing. More like appalling. Her lyrics claim Dana is the only plastic-surgery-free starlet in showbiz, but if you really "look at her," you'll see otherwise!
2. Haifa Wehbe - Of course Haifa had to make our list, it wouldn’t be right otherwise. In this video titled "Kiss It Better," the Lebanese singer plays the role of a “sexy nanny,” who's very uncomfortable to watch. Taking care of a toddler while dressed in stockings and hot pants isn't exactly child-friendly! Does it get worse? Sure. The child accompanies Haifa on her night out... to a date... at a nightclub. Enough said!
3. Myriam Klink - Another Lebanese makes our list, this time it's Myriam with her "Klink Revolution" video. But if you can't sing or act, must you really star in a music video which consists of caking make up on, provocatively dancing in multiple outfits all over the place, and firing machine guns at, um, who knows? It's a shame really, because the lyrics criticise the terrible state Lebanon is going through, while promoting better morals and policies. But the video has totally ruined the message Myms was trying to get across, and in return social media was anything but kind to her.
4. Maria - She's not really famous, and after watching this video, you'll pray that Maria doesn't become a household name either... ever! Let's put it this way, Ahlam's KFC rant looks better than this embarrassing music video. Draped in designer gear, Maria's image, lyrics and everything else reek of desperation. The song is titled "Stop, Just Come Over Here." We say, Stop. Just stop.
5. Wael Ft Menna - Lord have mercy! Receiving high criticism, both the Egyptian singers were sentenced to six months in jail for inciting “debauchery” in the racy "Seeb Eidy" music video, which went viral almost overnight. Ouch. This is a bizarre mix between pop, rap and noise, with an added x-rated sexual component that puts Rihanna to shame!
