ALBAWABA - In celebration of Halloween, we will be listing our favorite spooky anime we have come across over the years. Thanks to the flexibility of the medium, anime excels especially in horror whether it's gory and grotesque or psychological.
While there are thousands of horrifying series to watch in the genre, there are six terrifying anime that hold a special place in our hearts and are guaranteed to send chills down your spine!

6 Spooky Anime to watch on Halloween
1) Another

Final Destination the anime.
Another tells the story of Sakakibara Kouichi as he returns to school after a month's break from being sick. He fancies a girl called Misaki Mei whom he met at the hospital only to find out that she doesn't technically exist since her classmates can't see her.
Strange events start taking place at the school leading to the countless deaths of his friends and classmates. Kouichi and Mei find themselves investigating the reason behind these horrifying events. Is it a curse or an entity causing these events?

2) Hell Girl

A dark and mysterious anime about a girl from hell.
Hell Girl tells the story of Enma Ai who torments whoever visits a website by the name of Hell Correspondence which becomes available at midnight.
Whoever inputs their grudge on the website gets a visit from Enma Ai herself (Hell Girl) who sends their souls to hell. For some the price to pay is too high but; for others, their current life is a living hell, so they don't care what happens to them in the afterlife if the grudge is settled.

3) Parasyte the Maxim

Our favorite anime on the list! A gory sci-fi story about aliens and humans.
Parasyte the Maxim tells the story of Shinichi Izumi, a high school student living with his parents. One day a worm-like creature tries to take over Shinchi's brain while sleeping but his headphones block the parasite from entering.
Parasites are alien-like creatures who suddenly appear on Earth to take over the human race by going inside their ears and taking control over their whole body. The creature who couldn't crawl into Shinichi's ear takes to his right arm and ends up getting the name "Migi" (right in Japanese).
They eventually form a bond as they work together despite their differences.

4) Hellsing Ultimate

A rare occurrence of vampires in anime!
Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate are both excellent series to watch on Halloween. It tells the story of Allucard, a famous vampire hunter who hunts his own kind.
Although we know the outcome of the battles, it's exhilarating to see how powerful Allucard is! You can watch Ultimate without watching the 2001 anime since it's a total reboot of the series.

5) Perfect Blue

One of the most beautiful yet uneasy anime ever by the one and only Satoshi Kon.
Perfect Blue tells the story of a singer Mima Kirigoe who is encouraged by her director to quit singing and pursue a career in acting.
Fans get furious with her career change leaving one obsessive individual known as Mamoru Uchida to start to stalk her. The movie follows a simple premise but it's the uneasiness that makes it terrifying.

6) Death Note

Last but not least, the list wouldn't be complete without the iconic Death Note!
In the world of anime, Death Note has become a staple; even among those who are not admirers of the medium as they rave about the quality of this show.
It tells the story of a high school student, Light Yagami who finds a mysterious book called the Death Note. The notebook grants the user the ability to kill whoever name they write in it.
Sadistic death god, Ryuk drops the Death Note into the human world in amusement, as Light goes on a disturbing and wicked killing spree under the name of Kira in order to empty humankind of such criminals that caused the rotten world they live in.
