UAE singer Ahlam is doing her bit for the needy (and 'trashier' than herself) garbage men in her community. The Arab Idol judge has launched an online campaign to help the migrant garbage men.
Her charity garbage collection, launched on her Twitter page, is designed to raise money to buy call-cards for the trash-men, who are often away from family and friends, ahead of the holidays. Judge for the last season of Arab Idol, Ahlam was the subject of controversy for her less than tactful style of judging and trash-talking with fellow judges or even contestants.
Ahlam wrote on her page, “I suggest that we all should contribute in buying our brothers the trash collectors phone calling cards so they are able to call their families and loved ones during the Eid El Fitr holiday.”
The sometimes contraversial singer who is more used to being the butt of media campaigns and negative press than the subject of high praise, has drummed up support and kind words from the community for her charity stunt and gesture of compassion at Eid.
What do you think of Alham's charity gesture to help the trash-collectors? Has she redeemed herself in your eyes?
